Peeling door handle

We purchased this microwave oven along with the range about 2 years ago. The handle on the microwave oven started to peel. Besides looking bad, the pieces of the material that is peeling off are falling into the food we are cooking on the range below the microwave. The peeling material looks like a foil leaf that resembles stainless steel. The replacement price for a handle is around $250.00 which is about 25% the cost of a new microwave oven.

Love this microwave. It replaces a countertop model that was at least 15 years old. Controls are easy to follow. Primarily use for the microwave, but have used the convection oven feature a time or two to reheat pizza. Worked great without heating up my large oven.

I do not like the automatic controls for reheating, cooking or defrosting. It always does it for way too long ruining your food. I would have liked more settings for different foods. I also had to have the interior light replaced after just 2 months of use, It was under warranty this time but when it™€™s not this would have been an expensive repair. Additionally the bulb needs to be accessed by taking the unit down from the cabinet and having a service technician do the repair, that™€™s ridiculous for a bulb change. I recommend looking at other brands.

Can be frustrating to use

I admit that we not fully used all the functions at this time, and have 3 stars for now, and may do another review later after more use. The appliance is cosmetically nice, but as with other reviewers, I do agree on a couple of things. 1. The owners manual (that you have to download and print ~ almost 40 pages - same thing with the Cafe' slide in range we bought) is unclear and can certainly use improvements. I am not sure who GE uses to develop the manual, but it does not get into detail on how to use some of the functions. It is trial and error for now when cooking some items and have to figure it out on your own, and if you do figure it out, try to remember what you did for the next time. GE needs to provide a printed manual. 2. I do not like the 15 second intervals to heat or cook something. Forces you to stand at microwave to shut down manually. 3. If you have used a fairly standard microwave before purchasing this, try not to get frustrated and be patient. It definitely takes getting used to. 4. The reheat function can take a while when reheating foods, but it does do a good job reheating the food all the way through to the center - sometime too hot. Bottom line - still working through how to use this appliance and figure out the functions, and in many ways, I miss the simplicity of our former microwave.

This model is a significant improvement over the last model. The convection option is a great addition. The door is not as heavy (which led to misalignment in our previous model -- which had a broken latch which could not be repaired). The controls are logical (not all are).

Has no power. Many foods say, do not cook in a microwave less than 1100 watts. I have to adapt every set of instructions to work with this wimpy microwave. I thought I was getting top of the line. Microwaves 1/3 the price have hundreds of watts more power. My old GE Cafe did too. Bonus: The over the counter LED is a horrific green hue. I haven't figured out how to replace it with anything since it's proprietary.

Recently purchased along with Cafe induction range; not enough time/experience to do a complete review. That said, so far, wall template is structurally marginal at best, unit is underpowered (950 watts) and takes at least 20% to 25% longer to do the job than most food package instructions (most package instructions are based on a 1,200 watt unit). Air fry feature doesn't crisp as well as a dedicated air-fryer. The salesman told me it (along with the range) are the "Buick" of the GE line! However, as long as we are comparing it to cars, the prices seemed to reflect Cadillac level! Bottom line, so far not all that impressed.

Frustrating detail

I like our microwave. I'm super frustrated by a tiny thing -- this is the one cafe appliance in our home that doesn't connect to wifi / the app. I'd you're going to put the fridge and the oven and the dishwasher and the laundry machines on there, why would you leave this off? Why can I boil water from my phone, but not remote start the microwave or have its clock auto update? Frustrating detail.

Would not recommend

It looks nice, but the performance is subpar. It takes three times longer to air fry items than air fryer recipes suggest, three times longer than convection cook recipes suggest and twice as long to microwave items. Why would a higher end microwave air fryer convection oven with all these bells and whistles only be 950 W. It looks good in the brochure, but does everything substandard. Absolutely would not recommend it
